Sell silver guilders

Autor: Rolf van Zanten Date: 26 February 2025 Update: 26 February 2025 Reading time: 4 min

You can easily sell your silver guilders to our sister company Inkoop Edelmetaal. We will tell you more about the value of silver guilders, what preparations you need to make before selling the coins, how to assess authenticity yourself and what to consider when selling silver guilders.

Valuation of silver guilders

The value of silver guilders is determined by the silver it contains. Depending on the vintage, a silver guilder has a certain amount of silver. We offer 95% of the current silver price for silver guilders.

Material value silver guilders

Generally, the material value of silver guilders determines the full retail value. This may vary from one coin to another based on year. You can sell pre-1945 silver guilders and 1954-1967 silver guilders. Silver guilders minted before 1945 weigh 10 grams and contain 72% silver. The coins from 1954-1967 are only 6.5 grams so they contain less silver than coins minted before 1945.

It is also possible to sell silver half guilders (1857-1919) and (1921-1930), silver 10 guilders (1994) and (1995-1999) and silver 50 guilders (1982-1998). Do you have silver guilders from other vintages? We remotely value the coins!

Collectible silver guilders

Silver guilders have no official collector's value. However, silver guilders do have a rich history as a means of payment in the Netherlands. The guilder was first used in the Middle Ages and was in circulation until the introduction of the Euro in 2002. Silver guilders are relatively cheap to buy and they come in different designs which can make them interesting for a personal collection.

Preparing for sale

If you want to sell your silver guilders, you can prepare for this by checking the condition of the coins and assessing the coins for authenticity.

Condition of the coins

The condition of the coins does not matter for the sale. Silver guilders are purchased for the silver content of the coin. The Silver Mountain operates a unique buy-back guarantee for silver coins, regardless of where you bought them. We offer at least 95% of the silver value.

Authentication and assessment

Not all guldens are minted with silver. There are guldens minted in nickel which means they have no resale value. You can easily test yourself whether your guldens are struck with silver or not. Nickel guldens were mainly issued in 1967 and respond to a magnet.

Considerations when selling silver guilders

The most important consideration when selling silver guilders is the current silver price. This can fluctuate, making your silver coins worth more one moment than the next. These are the risks of investing.

Additional costs

For selling your silver guilders, you do not have to pay any additional fees. The only thing you need to consider is any shipping costs. Upon receipt, you will receive the money in your account within 48 hours. You can also choose to bring the coins to our office in Baarn by appointment.
