The process of buying physical precious metal

How does buying bullion work

Placing an order can be done via our website, by e-mail or by phone. The moment you place the order, the price is fixed and you enter into a payment commitment. You will receive an e-mail with the confirmation of your order and payment instructions. 
 

Fixing the price

On our website, you will find the complete range of gold, silver and platinum coins and bars. All our prices are up-to-date and updated every 3 minutes using the most current rate, this way you buy precious metals at current market prices. 
 

Binding agreement

At the time of ordering, we set the price and process the order. You will receive an automatically generated confirmation e-mail from us as soon as your payment is received and as soon as the package is dispatched. At the time of ordering, you as a customer enter into an obligation to pay (and we into an obligation to deliver). It is therefore not possible to cancel orders afterwards - we also purchase the precious metal at the same time. 
 

Payment methods

It is possible to make your payment by bank, via iDeal, in cryptocurrencies or - if you pick up an order - by PIN or cash. When making payment, you should always state your order number to ensure that your payment can be processed easily. 
 

 

Your order in process

You will receive an e-mail confirming your order as soon as it has been placed, followed by confirmation e-mails once your payment has been received and once the order has been processed at the warehouse. Between the time of payment and delivery, there may be time while your order is being processed. This is mainly due to the delivery time, as indicated for each product. 
We do not make partial deliveries and all stock available in the warehouse is allocated to your order and as soon as the remaining stock arrives, your order is automatically processed in the warehouse.

As long as your order has the status ‘pending’, it means that the warehouse is in the process of processing your order or awaiting new stock.
In some cases, delivery times differ from the indication given when we placed the order. We always try to communicate delivery times as best we can and are dependent on external circumstances in doing so, in case of deviations we will communicate this as soon as possible. 
 

Change order

Changing your order is possible as long as the order has not yet been processed and if it concerns an addition or an adjustment of the billing and/or shipping address. If you wish to change the order, please contact us and specify what exactly you wish to change. Please have your order number handy or state it clearly.
It is not possible to reduce the order amount or the number of products after you have placed an order. 
 

Cancel order

The right of withdrawal does not apply to orders containing precious metals. Cancelling an order is possible within 14 days as far as accessories and packaging materials are concerned.
When you place an order with precious metals, it is binding and you enter into an obligation to pay and we into an obligation to deliver. 
 

Receipt of your order

Once the order has been packed in the warehouse, an e-mail confirmation will automatically follow. It is then possible to organise delivery of your order. 
 

Delivery

When you choose to ship the product, you have several delivery methods to choose from. With us, shipping is always insured, regardless of the amount of the order. Our house courier and private courier specialise in high-value shipments and will therefore handle your order with discretion and care. 
In the unlikely event of something going wrong, the shipment is fully insured, even if sent by PostNL or UPS.

Products that are in stock are usually dispatched within 24 hours. If you place an order before 12 noon and pay the amount via iDEAL, you will usually receive your order the next day if the products are in stock. When your parcel is packed and dispatched, you will receive an e-mail containing the track & trace code for easy tracking of your parcel at any time.

Once you place the order, you can choose the delivery address. If you are logged in and have done business with us before, your default address will be shown here.
 

Collection by appointment

You can collect your order from our office in Baarn. Here we have a discreet and secure location where you can collect your precious metal. At our office we work with camera surveillance, in addition you will need to identify yourself for the visitors' register.
We do not keep stocks at our office address for security reasons. You can pick up your order by appointment only.
Please note that it may take several days between the time of ordering and when your order can be collected from our office. 
 

Storage Precious Metals Management Netherlands

Through our website, you can buy bullion and then have it stored at Edelmetaal Beheer Nederland (EBN). Storage locations are available in Rotterdam and Zurich. In Zurich, you have the option of VAT-free storage of silver, platinum or palladium. The big advantage of this is that the purchase of these metals is then not subject to 21% VAT. In addition, your precious metal is stored safely, insured and heavily secured. This is fully allocated storage, so all the precious metal is stored in the customer's name and is the legal property of the customer.
EBN operates with a trust account foundation and is licensed by the AFM to offer bullion combined with storage as an investment property.
 

What guarantees do I have 

 

Authenticity guarantee

The Silver Mountain guarantees the genuineness and authenticity of all products on offer. We source our bullion from recognised producers, such as smelters with LBMA Good Delivery Status (LINK). All new ingots from these producers usually come with a serial number and sealed packaging. 
The new investment coins we offer are sourced through official distributors of the world's leading mints. These are official coins with legal tender status.
We test coins from previous vintages for specific weight, content and condition upon collection. A special device is also used to measure to what extent the coin or bar responds to a magnet. This is different for each type of metal and this test can very easily distinguish gold from, say, tungsten (which has almost the same specific gravity as gold). 
All new coins are delivered in the original packaging as we purchase them from the mint. With Umicore gold bars, you will receive newly minted bars with a unique serial number in sealed packaging, so that the bars are also easily tradable in the future. 
 

Gold from LBMA Good Delivery list

LBMA stands for ‘The London Bullion Market Association’. The LBMA is the authority on global trading for silver and gold bullion.
The LBMA was established in 1987 by the Bank of England, which until then oversaw the gold and silver market. The daily activities of the LBMA include setting and overseeing standards related to the mining of gold and silver, creating documentation on precious metals trading and promoting the development of proper trading practices in this market.
LBMA's main role is to maintain the LBMA Good Delivery List for gold and silver. This list is recognised worldwide and contains the names of producers and smelters where the quality and purity of the precious metal is guaranteed. The LBMA Good Delivery List consists of four sections, with the following two relating to gold:

• Current Good Delivery List
• Former Good Delivery List

These lists only list producers and smelters accredited by the LBMA. This means that the ingots they produce must meet the LBMA's minimum standards. These companies are extensively audited every 3 years to make sure they meet the right quality requirements. In addition, the data regarding finances and production are checked annually.
A producer or smelter must meet strict criteria before it can be placed on the Good Delivery List. For instance, there are standards regarding the number of ingots produced and the material value of these ingots. There are also high requirements on the process of casting, producing and testing these ingots. 
To ensure that these high standards are met, producers and smelters are required to follow LBMA's Proactive Monitoring Programme. This involves continuous testing of the quality of the ingots. Once a company cannot but meet these standards, or the company stops production, it is moved to the former list for silver and/or gold.
The Silver Mountain only buys and sells in ingots sourced from LBMA-accredited smelters and producers.

For all coins and bars we sell, we issue a buy-back guarantee. This guarantee means that we can always buy back the coins and bars from you, regardless of the volume and regardless of the gold price at the time. Buy precious metal is a trade name of The Silver Mountain and through this website we buy precious metal from customers who have purchased it from us. You can also sell precious metal purchased elsewhere to us under the same conditions. We are the only ones in the Netherlands who are completely transparent about our purchase price and you do not have to undercut us. On our purchasing website, you can see directly for each product what the current bid price is and you can record this immediately, just like when you buy, by creating a (sales) order. 
No hidden costs! We work with fixed formulas to determine repurchase prices. We currently pay at least 98% of the current gold price for bars and at least 100% of the current gold price for gold coins and will always issue a market-based bid price to buy back your gold.
When placing a sales order, you can specify how you want to settle the sales order. It is possible to drop by the office or send via a service point. You can also sell to us directly from storage at Edelmetaal Beheer Nederland. Settlement is usually arranged within a few working days.
 

AFM licence

Since 19 June 2012, The Silver Mountain has held a licence from the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) to offer investment objects. This allows us to enable our customers, in addition to buying and selling physical gold and physical silver, to store your precious metals conveniently and safely.
The Silver Mountain has applied for the AFM licence in order to increase the visibility of its professionalism and reliability and to be independently assessed. As a provider of precious metal combined with storage, we are required to have a licence. Our offer meets the conditions of the AFM, allowing us to carry this licence. You thus invest under the supervision of the AFM and can therefore rest assured that everything is done according to the legal rules.
 

Insured transport

All orders are shipped fully insured at The Silver Mountain. We use a special courier service that allows you to receive a parcel during the day or in the evening. Saturday delivery is also possible. For all deliveries, identity is checked and you can only accept the parcel yourself. Upon delivery, you will be asked for proof of identity and you must sign for receipt. 
In addition, all orders are easily tracked with a time window of 2 to 3 hours. All packages are packaged discreetly and the name of The Silver Mountain or the contents of the package are not mentioned anywhere.
