General knowledge

Have coins appraised

Autor: Rolf van Zanten Date: 24 February 2025 Update: 24 February 2025 Reading time: 3 min

It is important to have certain coins appraised to establish their value. This is because not all coins have a fixed, globally recognised value. When it comes to valuation, not only the value of the precious metal is important, but the historical value also plays a role.

Thanks to The Silver Mountain's unique buy-back guarantee, you can easily sell back the coins you bought from us, and from other authorised dealers.

How does coin valuation work?

It is possible to have your coins valued remotely through our subsidiary Inkoop Edelmetaal. Especially for collector coins and older coins, valuation is important to determine the value of the precious metal.

Have collector coins valued

During appraisal, the value of collector coins is determined based on the value of the precious metal itself, the rarity of the coin and any historical value. For a valuation of collector coins, you can fill in Inkoop Edelmetaal's valuation form. On this basis, we can make an offer for your coins based on current precious metal prices.

Having a coin collection valued

Would you like to have an entire coin collection valued? For a comprehensive valuation of a coin collection, please contact Inkoop Edelmetaal via a question form or call us between 09:00 and 17:00 on weekdays at 035 - 203 1381.

Have historic coins valued

Historical coins, like collector coins, do not always have a fixed value, which may require valuation. Historical coins often have a different gold or silver content than newer investment coins. Coins are valued based on weight, content and current rates.

Have investment coins valued

Valuation is not necessary for most investment coins. The value of such coins is fixed because they are recognised worldwide. We work with bid guarantees that can be increased according to market conditions. For gold coins, we apply a bid price of 100% of the current gold price and for silver coins we can even offer 107% of the silver price.

When you want to sell your investment coins again, you can easily choose the right coins from Inkoop Edelmetaal's overview. You can then bring the coins to a branch of Inkoop Edelmetaal or send them to us. There, they will be checked for authenticity and you will receive the money in your account within 24 hours.

What does it cost to have coins valued?

At Inkoop Edelmetaal, you can have your coins valued remotely free of charge. The value of the coin can be estimated based on its weight and some photos. During the remote valuation, the authenticity of the coin is not checked. This only happens once we have the coins in our hands.

You can make an appointment at one of our offices in Baarn or The Hague to have the coins valued and checked for authenticity. Only when you agree to the sale order, the price is fixed and you will be paid that amount.
