Exemptions gift tax 2024

For the tax authorities, something is considered a gift if you give someone something that makes them wealthier and you poorer. Gifts can be given in various ways. For example, you can give money, but precious metals can also be gifted.

If you receive a gift, you generally have to pay gift tax. There are exceptions to this, known as exemptions. An exemption means that the recipient only pays gift tax if the value of the gift exceeds a certain amount.

The amount of gift tax you pay depends on your relationship to the donor and the value of the gift. In the table below, you can see which rate applies to you.

Receiving multiple gifts

If you receive gifts from different people, you do not need to add them together for gift tax purposes. The only exception is when both of your parents make a gift; in that case, you must add the gifts together, even if your parents are divorced. Gifts that fall under the one-time exemptions from a single person must always be added together. Gifts that fall under the annual exemption do not need to be added together.

Buying precious metals anonymously

At The Silver Mountain, it is possible to buy precious metals anonymously. When an anonymous order is placed, we refer to it as a counter sale. If you choose an anonymous purchase, you will receive an invoice without name and address details. Anonymous gold or silver can be purchased starting from €2,500, and this is only possible when orders are placed by phone. Payment must then be made when you pick up the order, either by PIN or in cash. For orders above €10,000, payment can only be made by PIN.

Conclusion

Gifting can be done in various ways. For example, with money, but precious metals can also be gifted. The amount of gift tax that needs to be paid depends on your relationship with the recipient and the value of the gift. There are exceptions, known as exemptions. An exemption means that the recipient will only pay gift tax if the value of the gift exceeds a certain amount.
