The story of Una and the Lion was written in 1590 by poet Edmund Spencer. The work is one of the longest poems written in the English language. In total, it consists of six books and 36.000 poems.The coin is 38.6 millimeters in diameter and has a face value of 1 pound on the island of St. Helena. Worldwide only 4.000 pieces were made.

The obverse shows an image of Una and the lion looking into each other's eyes. The obverse also features the inscription THE FAERIE QUEENE - the name of the series.
