This stunning 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams) silver (99.9%) coin pays tribute to one of the most famous artists of all time; Caravaggio, showcasing one of his most renowned masterpieces: Narcissus. The coin is square in shape and is presented as a painting. The coin, enriched by the golden gilding, is beautifully coloured and comes in a theme box together with the authenticity certificate. The mintage is limited to 500 pieces worldwide.
Features of the silver Narcissus coin
On the reverse of the coin, one sees the magnificent image of 'Narcissus'. This was painted by one of the greatest master painters of all time: Caravaggio. Although Caravaggio's paintings were rejected after his death due to his unprecedentedly harsh chiaroscuro and a dark background that filled the painting, he was eventually recognized as one of the founders of modern painting. Chiaroscuro is a technique in painting, film and photography where the light-dark contrasts are depicted stronger than they often are in reality. On the obverse of the coin, one sees the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin displays the inscriptions ''Elizabeth II'' - the name of the queen, ''2022'' - the year of issue, ''NIUE ISLAND'' - the issuing country and finally ''1 DOLLAR'' - the face value of the coin.The coin is struck in proof quality, on these coins various techniques have been applied that improve the quality of the coin. Think of polished coin plates and stamps which create a large contrast between the relief and the background.
