Information

1 troy ounce silver Krugerrand coin

Since 2017, The South African Mint has been producing the silver Krugerrand coin, introducing a silver counterpart to the iconic gold Krugerrand. This coin is minted in 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams) of pure silver (99.9%).

We purchase silver Krugerrand coins from previous years from private individuals. This allows us to offer these coins cheaper than newly minted silver coins. These coins are also traded under the margin scheme, which makes them even more attractive to you as an investor in physical silver. Of course, all silver coins we offer are strictly checked for authenticity, weight and silver content.

What is the margin scheme?

As of 1 January 2025, the VAT scheme for silver coins will be harmonised in Europe. This means that from that date onwards, 21% VAT will be charged on the sale of all new silver coins in the Netherlands, similar to the current treatment of silver bars. The margin scheme will no longer apply to new silver coins, but will continue to apply to existing coins purchased before 2025. This makes silver coins from previous years, such as this one, an even more attractive option for investors in physical silver.

The Krugerrand has been a global favorite as a gold bullion coin since 1967, thanks to the introduction of the first gold Krugerrand by The South African Mint. Today, the silver variant is an interesting option for investors. Unlike the gold Krugerrand, which contains 22 carat gold, the silver Krugerrand is made of 99.9% pure silver. This makes the coin equal in weight and fineness to other popular silver bullion coins.

Obverse

The obverse of the silver Krugerrand coin features the text Krugerrand at the top, with an image of a springbok, the national symbol of South Africa, below it. The year of mintage is clearly stated, and at the bottom of the coin you can read the text Fynsilwer 1 oz fine silver. Thanks to the use of innovative laser technology, the dies have been digitally enhanced, allowing for greater detail and shading of the design.

Reverse

The reverse of the silver Krugerrand coin has the same classic design as the gold variant. It features an image of Paul Kruger, the President of South Africa from 1883 to 1900 and a prominent figure in the Boer Wars. The portrait is surrounded by the text Sud-Afrika - South Africa, which represents both the English and Afrikaans names of the country.

Investment score

This product has an A-label (Our top 100 products). This means that it is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we recommend looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label means this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Label information
Investment-score: A-label

Investment score: An A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Investment-score: B-label

Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.

Investment-score: C-label

Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
