Information

1 troy ounce silver Britannia coin

The Silver Britannia coin is a highly valued investment coin from the United Kingdom, issued by the Royal Mint since 1987. Originally struck with a silver purity of 95.8%, the purity has been increased to 99.9% pure silver since 2013. Silver Britannia coins from previous years are often more affordable than newly minted coins, despite having the same weight and purity. The 1 troy ounce Silver Britannia coin in circulated condition offers an even more economical option.

Our circulated Silver Britannia coins come from private sellers and are offered at a reduced rate, allowing you to get more silver for your money. These coins may show light discoloration, scratches, or fingerprints but have been carefully checked for authenticity, weight, and silver content.

For future resale, we use a fixed percentage of the current silver price. We do not differentiate between new coins (from the current year) and coins from previous years (with imperfections).

Design of the 1 troy ounce Silver Britannia

The obverse of the coin features Lady Britannia with the latest security features. Surrounding her are inscriptions including the name of the coin, the year of issue, the coin's weight, and the purity of 99.9% pure silver.

The reverse displays an image of Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III. This side also includes the name of the monarch and the coin’s nominal value.

Security features

Since 2021, four security features have been added to the Silver Britannia coins to prevent counterfeiting:

  • Latent feature: A hologram effect where the padlock changes to a trident when viewed from different angles.
  • Surface animation: Micro-details created by laser engraving that give the appearance of moving waves on the coin.
  • Micro-text: The inscription “DECUS ET TUTAMEN” (an ornament and a safeguard) around the Britannia, created with lasers.
  • Tincture lines: A traditional art form depicting colors and patterns on the metal.

An A-label means this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Label information
A-label

Investment score: An A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

B-label

Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.

Investment-score: C-label

Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
