Information

1 troy ounce platinum coin Britannia

This popular Britannia coin is struck in 99.95% pure platinum and comes from various mintage years. The platinum Britannia coins have only been issued by The Royal Mint since 2018, but are already very popular among investors in physical platinum. This platinum coin has the same design as the gold and silver Britannia coins making it easily recognisable and tradable worldwide.

The platinum Britannia coins from previous mintage years are often cheaper than the newly struck platinum coins. These coins have the same weight and fineness as the newly struck coins, but have already been in circulation. Therefore, when determining the price, no further consideration is given to the production costs, as these have already been accounted for.

Design Platinum Britannia

The obverse of the coin features the majestic image of Lady Britannia with a sword in one hand and shield in the other, symbolising British dignity and strength. The inscription "BRITANNIA" is prominently situated above her head, while the edge of the coin displays the year of issue, weight, and purity.

On the reverse, we find the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. Her effigy is surrounded by the coin's nominal value and the name of the queen - "ELIZABETH II D.G. REG. F.D.".

Investing in platinum Britannia coins

The platinum Britannia coins have a nominal value of 100 pounds and are therefore traded under the margin scheme. The coins are significantly more appealing than platinum bars, which are taxed at 21%.

Investing in platinum can be interesting because platinum is the rarest of all precious metals. This type of metal was only discovered 250 years ago, and the platinum market is much smaller than that of gold or silver. Platinum is used for a variety of applications, such as the production of car catalysts, in consumer electronics like LCD TVs and computers, and also in jewellery and medical applications.

The Royal Mint is the official mint of the United Kingdom and boasts a rich history spanning over 1,100 years. Throughout these centuries, the mint has served the United Kingdom during times of war, political upheaval, and social and economic progress. The Royal Mint is renowned for its innovation and is considered a true leader in the world of coinage.

Given the significant role the Royal Mint has played, there is a Royal Mint Museum located within the mint itself in Llantrisant, South Wales. The museum showcases the fascinating history of the Royal Mint and many of the coins it has produced, including experimental coins, artworks, and tools. The quality of the Royal Mint's coins is exceptional, thanks to the innovative production techniques and technologies employed in their minting process.

Investment-score: B-label Common bullion coins and bars More information Less information

Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.

Investment-score: C-label Collectibles More information Less information

Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
