This popular and well-known gold coin from The Royal Mint is minted in 99.99% pure gold and contains a weight of 31.103 grams of gold, which equates to 1 troy ounce. The coin has a diameter of 32.69 mm and is packaged in a protective plastic coin case. The coin is highly sought after due to its value retention, familiarity, and good tradability.The 1 troy ounce gold Britannia coin was introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987 and has since been a popular gold investment coin that is easily tradable worldwide. From 2021, four advanced security features have also been added to the design of the coin to make counterfeiting the coin as difficult as possible.

Obverse
The obverse of the Britannia coin features a symbol of Lady Britannia standing next to a shield with the Union Flag, or the flag of the United Kingdom, created by Philip Nathan. Various inscriptions have been added around her, such as the name BRITANNIA, the year of issue, the weight, and the gold content 999.9 FINE GOLD.
Reverse
On the reverse of the coin, a beautiful depiction of King Charles III has been added, designed by Martin Jennings. The name of the monarch KING CHARLES III and the face value of 100 POUNDS can also be found on this side of the coin. The initials of the designer have also been added at the bottom right of the depiction.
Additions of security features
As mentioned, 4 security features have been added to the Britannia coin to make it incredibly difficult for other parties to counterfeit the coin. These features are:- Latent feature: a hologram effect where the padlock turns into a trident when viewed from a different angle.
- Surface animation: Micro details created by special laser engravings on the coin that give the visual effect that the waves are in motion.
- Micro-text: the inscription DECUS ET TUTAMENin English 'an ornament and a safeguard', around the Britannia effigy was created by means of special lasers.
- Tincture lines: a traditional art form in which colors and patterns are depicted on metal.
