Information
½ troy ounce gold Krugerrand coin
The gold 1/2 troy ounce Krugerrand coin is struck from 22-karat gold and weighs 16.97 grams, of which 15.55 grams consists of pure gold (half a troy ounce). In addition to gold, the coin also contains copper, which gives the Krugerrand its characteristic reddish glow that distinguishes it from other gold coins. This alloy of gold and copper not only makes the coin visually unique, but also makes it more robust and less susceptible to scratches and wear. What makes the Krugerrand even more unique is that this coin has no face value. The coin was originally designed and produced to be traded as pure gold, and not as traditional means of payment. Despite this, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) guarantees that each gold Krugerrand can be bought back at any time at the current gold price, which contributes to the reliability of this coin as a gold investment coin.
These 1/2 troy ounce gold Krugerrand coins come from various previous years. They are generally cheaper than newly minted coins, while the weight and gold content are identical. This price advantage is created because new coins include additional costs for production and transport to the Netherlands in the price. As a result, these previous years offer an excellent opportunity to invest in physical gold at a more favorable rate.

On the reverse is an image of Paul Kruger. Paul Kruger was a prominent figure in the history of South Africa as an important farmer during the Boer Wars and as the 5th president of the South African Republic. Otto Schulz is the designer of the motif. An additional detail is the milled edge and the text SUD-AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA.
History of the gold Krugerrand
The South African Rand Mint (now South African Rand Refinery) was the first mint house to introduce the gold investment coin in 1967. The purpose of the coin was to be traded purely as gold and as a promotion for South African gold. The name Krugerrand is a combination of Paul Kruger (the 5th president of the South African Republic) and Rand (the official South African currency).Since then, this coin has become a staple in the range of investment coins. It is a seemingly simply designed coin with strong lines and a robust appearance. The design of the gold Krugerrand has remained virtually unchanged since the first design.

Investment score
This product has an A-label (Our top 100 products). This means that it is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we recommend looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label means this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.
Label informationInvestment score: An A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.
Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.
Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
