Gold $10 Liberty Head Coin
The Gold $10 Liberty Head, also known as the Liberty Head Eagle, is a historic American gold coin. The design was introduced in 1838 and remained in production until 1907. The coin weighs 16.72 grams and is made of 90% gold, resulting in approximately 15.05 grams (0.4838 troy ounce) of pure gold. Its diameter is 27 mm.
Liberty Head design
The coin was designed by Christian Gobrecht of the United States Mint. The obverse depicts a left-facing Lady Liberty with her hair pulled back and a coronet inscribed ‘LIBERTY’. The reverse features an American eagle with a shield, arrows and an olive branch. From 1866 onwards, the motto ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ was added to the design.
The coin was struck over many years, resulting in various dates and mint marks. The exact version supplied depends on our current stock and may therefore differ from the product image shown.
