Silver Britannia proof set 2022

The silver Britannia coin - the noble female warrior that appeared on Roman coins nearly 2000 years ago - is portrayed in a vibrant new design for 2022, continuing to inspire a nation.

Every designer tasked with depicting Britannia understands that they are perpetuating an age-old tradition. For 2022, Dan Thorne has created a remarkably striking interpretation of this icon. Britannia first appeared on silver and gold coins minted in Roman times and was revived 350 years ago during the reign of Charles II, appearing on circulating coins' reverses, including copper half farthings and farthings. Since then, Britannia has been depicted on silver and gold coins, symbolizing hope in challenging times. Dan Thorne's design incorporates traditional imagery, such as the trident, shield, and lion, while featuring a bold, modern background filled with sunrays and rising waves.

On the obverse of the coin, within a dotted circle, stands the upright figure of Britannia, the female personification of Great Britain, facing left. She wears a helmet with a Corinthian crest, pushed back to reveal her face. In her right hand, she holds a trident, and in her left hand, a shield featuring the roaring face of a lion. In the background are waves and the Union Jack.

On the reverse of the coin is the head of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, adorned with the diamond crown.

Investment score

This product has a C-label. This means it is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. We consider products with a C-label to be collectibles. These are often coins minted in limited quantities, with luxury packaging and a unique theme.

Label information
Investment score: A-label Our top 100 products More information Less information

Investment score: An A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Investment-score: B-label Common bullion coins and bars More information Less information

Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.

Investment-score: C-label Collectibles More information Less information

Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
