Information

Buy silver Maple Leaf coins

The silver Canadian Maple Leaf is recognized worldwide as one of the purest and most popular silver bullion coins. With a purity of 99.99% pure silver (.9999), this coin is one of the best-selling silver bullion coins.

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Maple Leaf in 1988. In the years since, several changes have been made to the design, including three different portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, from her younger to older years. After her death in 2022, the portrait of King Charles III was introduced on the silver Maple Leaf coins. Since 2008, the coins have been supplied in tubes of 25 coins, instead of the previous 20 pieces. For smaller quantities, they are carefully packed in plastic coin sleeves.

Silver Maple Leaf coins and margin scheme

From 1 January 2025, 21% VAT will apply in the Netherlands to new silver coins, comparable to silver bars. Old silver coins, such as these silver Maple Leaf coins from previous years, will continue to fall under the margin scheme, making them attractive to silver investors.

Popular with investors

The silver Maple Leaf is extremely popular because of its exceptionally high purity and recognizable design. In addition, these coins are easily traded worldwide and are considered the most popular silver investment coins.

An additional advantage is that Maple Leaf coins from previous years are generally cheaper than newly minted coins, while the weight and silver content are identical. This means you receive more silver for your money, which makes these coins extra attractive to investors.

Obverse

The obverse of the Silver Maple Leaf coin features the iconic maple leaf, the national symbol of Canada. Since 2014, a security symbol has been added to the bottom of the coin: a small, laser-engraved maple leaf with the last digit of the year of production. This symbol offers additional protection against counterfeiting. In addition, the obverse features the words FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR, along with the silver content of 99.99% pure silver.

Reverse

The reverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf coins features an image of Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III. After the death of Elizabeth II in 2022, the portrait of King Charles III was introduced on the Silver Maple Leaf coins. Surrounding the portrait are the name of the monarch, the face value of 5 Canadian dollars, and the year the coin was minted.

Maple Leaf Gold Coins

In addition to silver, Maple Leaf coins are also available in 99.99% pure gold, the purest gold coins in the world. These gold coins are available in weights from 1/10 troy ounce to 1 troy ounce. In 2007, an impressive gold Maple Leaf of 100 kilos of gold was even minted. Special editions of the silver Maple Leaf coins are also available, such as coins with a Privy Mark, colored coins and copies with a hologram.

Investment score

This product has an A-label (Our top 100 products). This means that it is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we recommend looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label means this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Label information
Investment-score: A-label

Investment score: An A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Investment-score: B-label

Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.

Investment-score: C-label

Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
